After having spoken to Lucia on the phone about her wedding in the Berkshires outside Albany I immediately realized that her and Evan were planning something unique and extraordinary. The intimacy of having a wedding on her parent's property in the woods really appealed to me and when the day finally arrived I was touched by all the effort and work that her friends, family and neighbors poured into making the day unforgettable.
The festivities started the evening before with a big Hawaiian pig roast and cookout prepared by a friend of Lucia and Evan's that continued well after the sun came down.
The wedding day started with preparations of setting up the ceremony site with hay bales and decorating the reception in the woods with handmade signs and antique furniture. Pretty soon Lucia had her dress on and Travis came over for an emotion first look and a quick portrait session around the property. As the guests arrived they were greeted with cocktails and amazing hors d'oeuvres before taking their seat for the ceremony to begin. The officiant was also a friend of the couple which made the ceremony that more personal and intimate.
After the ceremony the guests made their way to the reception which took place in a clearing in the woods. Before the dinner, the wedding party had a series of heartfelt toasts. After nightfall the dancing started and didn't stop until the wee hours in the morning and commenced with a bonfire and s'mores.
After the wedding I felt that I as a photographer had made friends with everyone and I was touched by the warmth, romance and joy that permeated the weekend. I drove back to NYC wishing the wedding festivities had lasted all week.
